My Grandmother Nelson died this morning. She had Alzheimer's for over four years and was living in a nursing home in Dunn. Last Friday or Saturday, she apparently had a stroke and the whole family was informed that she was going to die. A few of them went to see her one last time, including my parents. My mom told me I would not want to see her in the state she was in. However, on Thursday, I was at the nursing home to help Aunt Joan with a few things. Aunt Joan was very good to Grandmom, spending most of last week at the home and aptly thanking the nursing home staff. Though I did know that Grandmom was dying as of last Saturday, I did not write about it here. The reason for that is that I would not have known what to say. I still don't know now. Even if I live to be 80, I won't know what to say. Grandmom was 80 years old. She will be cremated. The current plan is to hold off the memorial service until the end of July, when Uncle Dave is here.
